Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton

Pirate Latitudes was found in Michael Crichton's papers after his death. Crichton is known for his excellent techno-thrillers and for the TV show E.R. This novel is a pleasant surprise--a swashbuckling pirate thriller.

While the book is set in 1665, it still has all the sizzle and excitement of Crichton's other thrillers. It is essentially a caper novel (think Ocean's 11) with pirates as the motley crew of criminals. Even if you don't like pirate stories, you will enjoy this one, Crichton's writing is excellent and the plotting and action are first rate. If you do like pirate stories, you will love Crichton's characters and sense of history.

All in all, this book is a wonderful escape from the 21st century.
