Sail by James Patterson and Howard Roughan

Katherine Dunne is a wealthy New York City heart surgeon. It is no coincidence that her best friend is also her psychiatrist. Her dysfunctional family includes a suicidal teen daughter, a pot-head son and a nerdy 10 year old. After four years as a widow, Katherine marries high profile criminal attorney Peter Carlyle. Katherine decides to reconnect with her children on an extensive sailing tour which Peter claims he is unable to take.

If things were bad for the family in the city, on the boat they go from bad to worse. All manner of disasters occur, none of which are strictly natural.

While the plot and the characters are as wooden as the sailboat, this is a really fun summer read. The action never slows down as the soap-opera family moves from crisis to crisis. This is a great book for a drowsy afternoon at the beach when you don't want to worry about the details of the story.
