The Princes of Ireland by Edward Rutherfurd

After reading Ken Follett's great historical novels, I wanted to read something similar. I stumbled over this thick book in the fiction section and thought it might fill the bill. While Rutherfurd's book is good, he isn't the writer Follett is.

The Princes of Ireland covers 11 centuries of Irish history, beginning in tribal, pre-Christian times. The book takes a very human look at history, featuring the stories of individuals more than their culture. If you are looking for a big book for a cold winter night, this might be the thing.

The Princes of Ireland is the first of two books in the Dublin Saga.
