The Narrows by Michael Connelly

Michael Connelly brings together characters from previous books in this top-notch thriller. Harry Bosch, Connelly's series hard-boiled detective, is asked by the wife of the late FBI agent Terry McCaleb (also from previous books) to look into McCaleb's death. Harry follows clues that seem to tie McCaleb's death into the serial killer The Poet, who is former FBI agent Bob Backus (and also from a previous book, The Poet). Harry brings in the L.A. police and the FBI, including agent Rachel Walling (featured in The Poet). While bringing all these characters together might seem a recipe for confusion, if not disaster, it works very well in the capable hands of Connelly. If you're looking for an edge of the seat thriller that combines great characters, description and narrative, this is your book.
